Cultural perspectives on Cancun, Mexico

My cultural perspective of Mexico is a post dedicated to the Indiana South Bend University International Blog Post .

June 28th, 2013 my family visited Cancun, Mexico for our summer vacation spot. When most people hear Cancun, the first thing that comes to mind is sandy beaches and shots of tequila. However, I had the opportunity to experience the "authentic" Mexico.

Apart from resorts and shops that are created and reserved to accommodate American tourists,
Mexico has a unique culture that is often overlooked.

Upon arrival we decided to venture out beyond the guarded community, we stopped at a taqueria. The taqueria is unlike any "american" restaurant, most are outdoors, and receive patrons directly from the street.

Although El Fogon Taqueria is a couple streets away from the touristy part of  Cancun the menu is completely in spanish. Greeting us with a friendly welcome and homemade chips and salsa. From the tables you could see the busy street filled with people walking with groceries, children playing in the parking lots, and buildings full of creative graffiti which makes the city's beauty pops.

The transition from Cancun to the more traditional side of Mexico is beyond eye-opening. Usually tourist spend all their time at the resort or simply shopping down Cancun ave, missing the side street fruita being sold, kids playing futbol on the basketball courts, or the old women hanging clothes on the lines outside.

I strongly encourage that if you study abroad that you venture out beyond the typical touristy destinations and experience an authentic cultural lifestyle. Go beyond the chain of american restaurants and instead try freshly crisp carne  asada topped with cilantro and cebolla and a dash of chile made on the side of the street.

Instead take a stroll on the opposite side of town and experience the hand made dresses being sewed right in front of your eyes.

Make your experience worth while.

About this blog

Hello there Futbolistas, This blog will follow the journey of FCBarcelona. "Barca" short for Barcelona, plays in three leagues: La Liga, Champions league, and Spanish Cup. Being a Futbolista myself, I choose to write about fcbarcelona because soccer is something I hold dearly to my heart. My entire family has been involved in soccer ever since I can remember, and the game comes natural to me. I love soccer because the game is so complex and the amount of skill you can do by simply moving your foot to the right or left.
Barcelona has always been my favorite ever since Ronaldinho (one of the best players for Barcelona/Brazil) played for them. Ronaldihno was one of the best players of his generation own for his technique, tricks, and dribbling. Now, Messi is number one and although he does not preform tricks like Ronaldihno, he has ball control that seems unreal.
Most people love soccer, but do not "see the game" I think my knowledge about the game is far more enhanced than others. I will document my perspective and insights about the leagues, games, and players.
Check out FCBarcelona for the history and stats of previous  years/games.

Missing Piece of the Puzzle

Lionel MESSI, Four time winner of the World Player of the Year [ later the FIFA Ballon d'Or] and clubs all-time leading goal scorer, faces two long months out after he tore a ligament in his left knee during the defending Champion's Spanish League match against Las Palmas on Saturday September 26, 2015.

Messi went down after he cut inside from the right wing, and his left-footed shot was blocked by visiting defender Pedro Bigas in the Third minute.

The missing puzzle piece represents Messi's absence from the team. Just as a puzzle can't be completed without all the pieces Barcelona is also not complete without Messi.

Coach Luis Enrique says "I'm sad anytime a player gets injured, and if it's Messi even more so considering the weight he has on the team".

Messi is more than just a valuable player he makes the team. Messi moves the ball with such grace which seems almost unreal. He makes unbelievable goals with the last bit of faith needed to win the game. Messi's injury will definitely give Barcelona a time to shine without their star player, time to prove that Barcelona is number one as a team not only because of Messi.

Messi is said to be out Nov. 21st when they face Real Madrid for the "EL CLASICO", those of you who are not so familiar with La Liga, Real Madrid is their Rival and is the mostly watched game of La Liga. The game is seen as a match between Messi and Christiano Ronaldo (CR7), While I know Messi is the best in the world, many claim CR7 is number one. The game should be an interesting one and hopefully Messi will be okay to play in time.

FC Barcalona gets Destroyed

Every Tuesday I will do a recap of the game(s) played during the previously week.
Today"s "Tuesday Recap":

Last night FC Barcelona played Celta Vigo in La Liga. The game got interesting in the 26th-minute when Celta player Nolito, scored. Nolito's goal, if you missed the game, was an upper 90, unblocked amazing shot. Usually Barca's defense is on point, so you can see the disappointment when Nolito was inside the 18 with no one guarding him. Up until now Barca has been winning every game, but due to the lackluster performance of the defense the match continued to drop. Eventually Celta Vigo quickly scored two more goals. I will admit that the defense was lacking this game, especially with the last three goals being break through's and players being unmarked. The match ended 4-0 I was very disappointed with Barcelona and now put Celta Vigo in the lead. Barcelona had a couple chances they just couldn't put away, both clubs took 18 shots, with Barca putting seven on target, while Vigo put five on goal. Which ultimately means they executed 90 percent of their shots. Barcelona who usually dominates the game just did not show up.
